Amsterdam and its bridges

Amsterdam, the city of canals is nothing without its bridges. Amsterdam has over 1500 bridges of which 252 in the city centre. In fact Amsterdam has more canals comparing to Venice and more bridges than Paris We have selected the most beautiful bridges for you.

Top 5 bridges in Amsterdam

1. De Magere Brug (Skinny Bridge)
Due to its breathtaking location and charming silhouette, Magere Brug might be the most romantic spot in Amsterdam. The bridges’ narrow walkway unites the western and eastern banks of the river Amstel, making its central deck ridiculously photogenic. A must see especially in the evening when the 1200 lights are shining.

2. De Blauwbrug (Blue Bridge)
Although the name of this iconic structure translates into English as Blue Bridge, the bridge is not blue anymore. This misleading title derives from another, older bridge, that stood in the same spot during the 16th century, which was replaced in 1883. When you have ever visited Paris it is noticeable that the design has been copied from the French.

3. Het Liefdesbruggetje (love bridges)
In 2016 this small bridge in the Sarphatipark received its name but the locals called it for years already love bridge . This wooden bridge is one of the most popular spots in Amsterdam for wedding proposals and we get that.

4. Staalmeestersbrug
It was a bridge where lovelocks are affixed to the bridge until the city of Amsterdam stopped this tradition because it’s damaged the Dutch Pont des Arts. De Staalmeesterbrug (1928) is a beautiful drawbridge and offers a splendid location to take pictures of the Zuiderkerk

5. Lekkeresluis
The story said that in former times on this bridge pancakes where sold, the best ones.. The lekkeresluisbrug (1754)  is not only a beautiful bridge with iron banisters but the view is spectacular. You can see the Prinsen- and Brouwersgracht and you have a straight view on the Westertoren.
