For its eighth edition the Amsterdam Light Festival, yet again, promises to be a grand spectacle. From the 28th of November until the 20th of Januari Amsterdam will be lit up by beautiful art pieces.
The 53-day exhibition revolves around the theme ‘Disrupt!’. Disruption is often inconvenient and has to do with conflicts, chaos and sometimes even danger. Disruption can also give a positive stimulant to change. It questions fixed assumptions, triggers new discussions and reveals unknown possibilities. Artists from all around the world were inspired by this theme in many different ways.
21 artworks and installations
650 artists, designers, and architects were challenged to wake, test, and question the city of Amsterdam and its surroundings. From all these entries 21 entries were chosen to disrupt the city. To comply with the theme even the route will be different this year.
Visit the exhibition
For 53 days, the exhibition can be admired by boat, by bike, or on foot. You can do this on your own initiative or by booking a tour with one of the official festival partners.
The artworks are switched on daily from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. The only exception is New Year’s Eve when they are on from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
There will also be coöperations with other organizations in Amsterdam. In Artis, for example, people can walk around the zoo after closing to admire it in the dark accompanied by a special app.
