The best shopping streets of Amsterdam

Shopping can be done best in our capital. Whether you prefer the big warehouses, the famous chains, unique boutiques or vintage shops. You’ll find it all in the shopping streets of Amsterdam. Are you planning on visiting the vibrant city for a day of shopping? Don’t forget to check out the list below to see where your favourites can be found.

1.Kalverstraat

The Kalverstraat is probably the most famous shopping street of the country, located just minutes away from the Amsterdam Central Station and Dam Square. Here you’ll find all the famous chain stores such as H&M, ZARA, Footlocker, ICI PARIS XL, Jack & Jones, and Mango. Besides, this is the street where you can find brands that are not or nearly being sold anywhere else in the country. Like Forever 21, Urban Outfitters and Topshop. In addition, the most impressive warehouses are just around the corner; De Bijenkorf and Hudson’s Bay.

2.The 9 Streets

For a somewhat more tranquil surrounding and authentic Amsterdam street experience, you should visit the famous ‘9 streets’. The area offers the most beautiful boutiques displaying unique (often Amsterdam based) brands for everyone. Brands that have yet to be discovered, well-known quality brands or even vintage pearls. This area also has a lot to offer when it comes to coffee bars and places-to-go for lunch. Perfect for a pause between the strolls.

3.De Pijp

De Pijp is one of the most popular areas of Amsterdam, and more and more shops are finding their way here. Cotton & Cream, Charlie & Mary and Anna + Nina are just a few examples. De Merkenwinkel has gained popularity as well. The store serves as a pop-up store, meaning that it is being transformed into another store every few weeks. Besides, this area guarantees – just as the 9 streets area – lots of nice places to have a drink or a bite.

4.De Hallen

The so-called ‘De Hallen’ in Amsterdam West is a true hotspot of Amsterdam. The building once served as a tram depot where the first electric trams of Amsterdam were serviced. The monumental building has been completely transformed into a large market, offering clothes, sweets, and vintage. A visit is worthwhile!

5.IJhallen

Something else; the IJhallen. The IJhallen can be found in Amsterdam North. At the monthly – and Europe’s biggest – flea market, you’ll find the coolest furniture, the most beautiful antique items, and the best vintage pieces. From Amsterdam Central Station it’s only a few minutes by ferry!
